The versatility of the Alvarinho grape allows us to discover the different textures of the territory by enhancing the fruitier or the more mineral flavours. In the Monção e Melgaço sub-region – where Alvarinho has its origin – Soalheiro increases thy riches by presenting its several dimensions according to the location where the vineyards are planted: in the mountain valley. An example of this is the emblematic Soalheiro Clássico wine – an Alvarinho wine from the “valley”, a perfect, intense, elegant and full wine – and the Soalheiro Granit wine – an Alvarinho wine produced from a specific selection of vineyards planted 300 meters above sea level.
But after all, what distinguishes an Alvarinho wine deriving from vines planted in the valley area from one deriving from vines planted in the mountain? The soil, the climate and of course, the willingness of Soalheiro, the first of any Alvarinho brand, to preserve the tradition of the place, committed to innovation based on the detailed study of each particularity of the terroir.
IN THE VALLEY… SOALHEIRO CLÁSSICO IS BORN The grapes of Alvarinho variety used to produce Soalheiro Clássico wines come from several small vines planted in granite soil at an altitude of 100 – 400 meters located in a very specific microclimate in the Monção e Melgaço sub-region. The vineyards planted in the valley area are protected by the mountains from the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. This mountain range mainly affects the rainfall, the air humidity and temperature, which are key factors in determining the qualitative differentiation of our Alvarinho.
That is why, Soalheiro Clássico wine presents a consensual profile due to the aromatic freshness of Alvarinho grape variety, the intensity of the taste and an unusual bottle aging. Intense and tropical, it is perfect as an aperitif or to accompany with shellfish, fish or poultry dishes.
IN THE MOUNTAIN… SOALHEIRO GRANIT IS BORN The grapes of Alvarinho variety used to produce Soalheiro Granit wines come from several small vines planted in granite soil at more than 300 meters above sea level. This Soalheiro wine reveals the minerality related to the granitic soil of the Monção and Melgaço terroir and the Alvarinho grape variety, enriched with batonnage and fine lees ageing. That is why, it presents a lemon yellow colour, a contained and elegant aromatic profile with mineral notes and a crisp finish. A very gastronomic wine, the Soalheiro Granit perfectly harmonizes with all kinds of shellfish or fish dishes.
